LDF Day 3 crush: Naomi Paul

    by  • September 19, 2014 • Uncategorized • 0 Comments

    Three days.
    Three London Design Festival shows.
About 3000 images of design genius running through my brain.
As I process them all for yet another season, I feel compelled to give immediate props to the stand-outs, and at 100% Design yesterday, that post belonged to the Light/Shade collection from  Naomi Paul.

Naomi Paul shadesHer crochet lampshades (or cro-shades, if you will) are hanging woven works of art and have impressed interiors media and design junkies alike for years, with Naomi herself winning the ‘Young Designer of the Year 2012’ at the Homes & Gardens Designer Awards.Naomi Paul at 100% DesignThe new Light/Shade collection is an absolute stunner.
Super sexy in proportions and served up in a mixed palette that is hotter than a Riviera sunset, I am currently contemplating one for every room of my flat.Naomi Paul at 100% DesignThese are furthermore of note in light of the current craze for craft.
There is a very pure, very handicraft feeling about them, and texturally they are glorious, but the tight and slick execution takes them beyond the wholesomeness that is associated with craft.

Am I gushing? Try and stop me.

    Hello again Melin Tregwynt

I had a nostalgic moment yesterday when I turned and caught a glimpse of this stand at Design Junction – part of the London Design Festival – and actually made a wistful sigh as I thought to myself ‘I wonder what happened to Melin Tregwynt?’

Melin TregwyntWell imagine my delight as I discovered this was Melin Tregwynt and with a fantastic palette and some fun new ideas for autumn 2014.

    Melin Tregwynt

And the truth is they never went away. They have been doing their thing – weaving a lovely collection of woollens in Pembrokeshire, as they have been for over 100 years – but they have been doing it quietly of late.

Well it was wonderful to hear some big noise from them at Design Junction in the form of this fantastic collection.

The colours are as rich and vibrant as ever and mix breathtakingly well in their classic designs. And as stripes. And as crosses and checks. Frankly, a throw in each design is on my wish list.
No truly relaxed home should be without one.

Add to that their upholstery fabrics and cushions, satchels, cases and bags…

Melin Tregwynt bags and cases…and they are all set to take over the home and accessories world once again.

    I surrender.
    Gladly.

    I predict a riot…

I was at HOME (the trade show, not the place where I live) yesterday and spotted a range I had previously caught site of via some of the French webshops I frequent. And this range – from design duo Mr & Mrs Clynk  – is set to be big.

Mr & Mrs ClynkMy snap doesn’t do it justice.
Via the French collective Atomic Soda, the Mr & Mrs Clynk range is a mix of porcelaine tableware, stationery and textile goods all married beautifully to prints that apply a hint of retro charm to thoroughly modern shapes and ideas in decorative homeware.

    Mr & Mrs Clynk
Their delicate design magic is applied to mugs, teapots, trays, platters and bowls in various sizes, but it is these lidded storage jars that will be gracing my kitchen countertop as soon as they are available in the UK…

Mr & Mrs Clynk storage jarsSome of the range is available from the Atomic Soda e-commerce site, Atomic Bazaar, but success in getting it will depend on the level of your French language skills and the delicacy of the postal service.

Best get your elbows ready for when it does start to occupy the shelves of shops in the UK (and it will) as I predict there will be a run on this thoroughly covetable stuff.
