Weather update! I forecast a cluster of clouds on the horizon. And I’m not talking about the typically inclement British weather. Cloud-inspired designs are popping up in homeware brands across the nation, in everything from cushions to wallpaper. Here are a few of my favourite finds…

    From pipe to paper

An under-sea pipeline may not seem the most obvious place to go looking for design inspiration, but that’s exactly what pattern gurus Mini Moderns has done with its latest wallpaper range.

The P.L.U.T.O. wallpaper is named after The Pipe Line Under The Ocean, a fuel line constructed during the Second World War to supply fuel from Britain to the allied troops during the D-Day landings.

Mini Moderns founders Mark Hampshire and Keith Stephenson explain: ‘We expressed the idea of the pipeline in the design as a continuous metallic line, running diagonally across a background inspired by the ‘dazzle’ camouflage featured on military vessels during the two world wars.’

History aside, the design really does look fabulous. It has a sort of retro-meets-deco vibe that would make the perfect backdrop to streamlined mid-century-style furniture.

It would also be a snazzy way to jazz up panelled wardrobe doors or the linings of drawers.

It comes in five bold colours, so pick out your favourite and design the rest of your scheme around it. Bagsy the orange and silver.
