Take the stress out of shopping with Product Finder from Housetohome

    by  • November 17, 2015 • Living • 0 Comments

When I bought my first home just last year, I was thrust – empty purse and all – into the world of furniture shopping and interior design.

Having only ever rented (very small and slightly sad) flats, it was suddenly time to kit out a whole house.

With limited experience and even less cash to flash, I trooped around showrooms looking lost and spent far too much time hunting for a-bit-dull-but-very-important appliances.

Throw in a partner with very different tastes and the whole thing resulted in five individual lunch hours spent in a well known furniture store trying every possible style and shape (seriously, on the last day the staff couldn’t believe their eyes when we actually bought a sofa!).

But now the answer to my ‘I just don’t know what I’m really looking for’ prayers have been answered.

Ladies and gents, I give you Product Finder – our brilliant new shopping resource which showcases the best items for every room in your home, without all the background noise.

Be inspired, choose your favourite and buy.

Now, if anyone needs me I’ll be in the feature wallpaper section mentally redesigning my living room…

    Happy shopping!

5 key ingredients to the perfect autumn shindig

    by  • November 9, 2015 • Living, Uncategorized • 0 Comments

A fabulous evening with friends and fireworks has got me right in the mood for the colder months.

With crisp jacket potatoes to enjoy and gloriously natty knitwear to don, is there anything better than an autumnal garden party?

    I thought not.

Here are the five essentials for a bit of a do which embraces the cooler months in all their glory…

    1. A fire pit

    Fire-Pit

There’s something magical about an open fire, particularly in the colder months when you can warm your cockles over an open flame. Plus, the flattering light makes everyone look rather fabulous which adds to the all-round romance of the evening.

Don’t miss our pick of the best fire pits on our main site, Housetohome.co.uk.

    2. Marshmallows to toast over said fire

Simple marshmallows or up-the-ante smores, an open flame in the garden is nothing without squishy treats to toast. Plus you can play the who-is-smuggest-with-a-stick game as you try and outdo each other for the perfect toasted marshmallow (and there’s always one who burns their treat to a crisp, naturally).

    3. Hearty carbs

    jacket-potatoes

Crispy – but oh-so-fluffy – spuds, rich and delicious chili and a rather large pot of bubbling baked beans. There’s just no compromise when it comes to fireside fare – the more carbs the better, there’s no body-con frocks at autumn garden parties.

    4. Fine (or relatively ok) wine

A glass of fizz to toast the night, before lashings of mulled wine and cider to see you into the evening. The smell of a hot toddy is unbeatable. Cheers!

    5. Good friends and family

Last but not least, your nearest and dearest to eat the grub, watch the flames and toast the evening. Perfect.
