A fabulous evening with friends and fireworks has got me right in the mood for the colder months.
With crisp jacket potatoes to enjoy and gloriously natty knitwear to don, is there anything better than an autumnal garden party?
I thought not.
Here are the five essentials for a bit of a do which embraces the cooler months in all their glory…
1. A fire pit
There’s something magical about an open fire, particularly in the colder months when you can warm your cockles over an open flame. Plus, the flattering light makes everyone look rather fabulous which adds to the all-round romance of the evening.
Don’t miss our pick of the best fire pits on our main site, Housetohome.co.uk.
2. Marshmallows to toast over said fire
Simple marshmallows or up-the-ante smores, an open flame in the garden is nothing without squishy treats to toast. Plus you can play the who-is-smuggest-with-a-stick game as you try and outdo each other for the perfect toasted marshmallow (and there’s always one who burns their treat to a crisp, naturally).
3. Hearty carbs
Crispy – but oh-so-fluffy – spuds, rich and delicious chili and a rather large pot of bubbling baked beans. There’s just no compromise when it comes to fireside fare – the more carbs the better, there’s no body-con frocks at autumn garden parties.
4. Fine (or relatively ok) wine
A glass of fizz to toast the night, before lashings of mulled wine and cider to see you into the evening. The smell of a hot toddy is unbeatable. Cheers!
5. Good friends and family
Last but not least, your nearest and dearest to eat the grub, watch the flames and toast the evening. Perfect.Tweet
