• How to decorate with pastels in the winter months

The weather might be turning, but your mood can still feel summery and light if you embrace the pastel trend this autumn. Although pastel shades seem a perfect fit for the fresh spring and early summer months they can also work really well in the winter as they make the most of every last drop of wintry light and reflect it around for a bright living space.

Adapt the trend for the winter months by adding rich metallics and layering up thick throws in reflective silks and satins. How great is this metallic diamond bedside table (above). Darker colours or natural textures such as the salvage wooden table below also help to keep the overall look from feeling too sugary sweet.

It’s common to add darker colours and rich textures once the nights start drawing in, but I prefer to take advice from the stylish Scandinavians who beat the short, dark winter days by making their homes as light, bright and airy as possible. Wall hangings like this uber pretty one from Urban Road (below) are a great way of warming up walls and adding the cosy factor to winter living rooms whilst still keeping them feeling fresh and bright.

And finally, cosy textured surfaces like this fantastic felt pom-pom rug will make sure your feet stay toasty warm. Come on Autumn, we’re ready for you!

I love these pretty pastels. What paint colours did you use for the walls please? Im in a dilemma over my open plan living room/ dining room and these colours look stunning.

Hello, i’m glad you like them! I’m not sure what the paint colours are on the walls as each image is different, but a soft white with a hint of cool grey will work well with pastel shades.
